The base is made from wood. Unclear what kind of wood. Does not look like boxwood.
On the back, there are some tables for conversion from French (toise, pied, pouce) and English (pouce, pied, yard) standards. Also a table for calculation the weight of different materials based on specific weight (eau, mercure, marble, ...)
