Mechanical Revolution Counter and Surface Speed counter (0409)

Index: 0409

Year: Ca 1900 ?

Maker: AL. SPIES & Cie, Bruxelles (a) ?

Dimensions: 1 x 8 x 3 cm (box)

Info

Pure mechanical Revolution counter. The measuring pin advances the first gear wheel via a little worm wheel. It takes 100 revs for a full turn of this wheel. This is in turn geared via a 10/100 gear to the 100's wheel.

The box contains 3 measuring tips: 3 side taps tip for measuring in a hole or center, a concave tip and a wheel. The latter has a diameter of approx 3.2 mm making the circumference 10 cm to be used for measuring the surface speed where each indication would be 10 cm.

To reset the counter, the lever can be activated which releases the smaller gear from the worm wheel and also brakes the connection between the 2 gear wheels, as such allowing the gears to be manually reset.

(a) "AL. SPIES" could also be the reseller in Belgium at the time. Encountered the same tachometer under the name of "Schaeffer & Budenberg" ??

Inscriptions:

DIZAINES (first gear with marks every rev and number every 10 revs)
CENTAINES (second gear with marks every 10 revs and indication every 100 revs)
