Gauge to measure the thickness of ropes and cables.

Both sides of the boxwood body have tables stamped in. On the first side, there are tables with the following headings for iron cable: FILE DE FER, POIDS PAR METRE, CHANVRE EQUIV, POIDS PAR METRE, FORCE DE TRACTION. Also for chains: CHAINE, P DU METRE, FILIN CORRES, FORCE DEPREE.

Onn the other side, a table with the weight per meter for different diameters and different kinds of rope: POIDS PAR METRE COURANT, CIRCONF, MANOEUV, DORMANT, RATINGUE, MANILLE.

On the small side, the inscription "E. PRESTON - TRADEMARK - WARRANTED BEST BOX".

In the slider recess, the number "333" is stamped in the wood.
