Thermometer mounted on sliding lid from a box. The underside of the scale and wood mount is hinged to allow the scale to be folded away from the mercury reservoir in order to measure the temperature of a liquid (presumably). A small hook hold the thermometer in place when mounted vertically on a wall. The thermometer can also be slided out completely from the box.
On top of the scale, there are the letters "R". At 0°C, the letters "E" and "P".
