Index: 0149

Year: Around 1930?

Maker: W.G. Pye & Co Ltd, Cambridge

Dimensions: 35 x 21 x 14 cm

Info

Balance invented by W. Hibbert of the Regent Street Polytechnic to demonstrate and determine the magnetic attraction between two bodies and to demonstrate the law of reverse square of the distance between bodies F = C.(m1.m2)/r2.

On the apparatus, the 2 masses are brought together till there is enough attraction to tilt the balance. By sending a current through the coil, thus creating a magnetic field of known strengt, the equilibrium can be restored.
